A Psychiatrist with expertise in the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders in the elderly. The Geriatric Psychiatrist seeks to improve the psychiatric care of the elderly both in health and in disease.
Pain Medicine
Pain Medicine is the medical discipline concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of the entire range of painful disorders. A physician who specializes in pain medicine provides a high level of care, either as a primary physician or consultant, for patients experiencing problems with acute, chronic or cancer pain in both hospital and ambulatory settings. Due to the vast scope of the field, Pain Medicine is a multidisciplinary subspecialty and patient care needs may be coordinated with other specialists.

80 bed freestanding Psychiatric Hospital in suburban Gainesville conveniently located near the Interstate 75, Rick Shriner, MD, the Chief at Vista Psychiatric Hospital is also a double boarded expert, he is both an Internist (trained in Internal Medicine) and a Psychiatrist. Under Dr Shriner’s direction, Vista has developed Florida’s top private academic inpatient treatment programs for eating disorders, dual disorders, Geriatric Psychiatry, Depression, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychiatry, and Schizophrenia. Dr. Shriner also writes the Living with Food column in the Gainesville Today Magazine.
The Program Director for the Psychiatry Department's Brain Stimulation Division is
led by Louis Solomon, M.D. Dr Solomon is ideally trained to evaluate and treat depressed and difficult to treat patients. He was trained in Neurosurgery and Pediatric Neurosurgery and practiced for many years before coming to the University of Florida and training in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. That makes him the ideal Brain Stimulation Unit Program Director.
